Chelan Butte, overlooking Lake Chelan in central Washington, is one of North America’s premier competition sites.

Pilots drive to the summit and choose among Ants, Between the Rocks, Green Monster, or Lakeside launches depending on wind direction. Strong summer thermals pump off the flats and carry pilots across the Columbia River toward classic triangles and out-and-returns. XC potential is enormous, but mid-day conditions can be rowdy with dust devils. Evening glass-offs often deliver smooth soaring above the lake. Chelan hosts US Nationals and World Cup events, making it a bucket-list site for serious pilots.
